Atwater Village Condos on the LA River

Site Context Plan (Green: Park Space, Pink: Pedestrian/Bike Path, Blue: Condo Unit)
Perspective: from LA River bed

Public Patio Space: perspective from elevated carriageway bridge
Condo Building: from the park-like river bank

These are concept renderings of a riverfront development in the LA River channel. The development utilizes existing old bridge pillars as substructure for a large trans-river public patio. The patio joins bike/walking paths on either bank. Cafes, and farmer's markets may take place on the patio space. Atop the pillar risers are three story condo buildings with the promise of boutique space on the bottom level. The entire development would take advantage of breezes generated by cool flowing waters below, and the channel course-way. Views are expansive given wide separations from the nearest neighboring buildings. There is easy access to commuter rail, parks and the bikable neighborhoods of Silver Lake, Echo Park, Los Felix, Griffith Park (including the observatory and its trails), and Atwater Village. This type of over-water public patio space is heavily inspired by traditional riverfront Kyoto, Japan. Rooftop patios and private in-unit patios supply residents with plenty of fresh air and private enjoyment.
