Play Box Lid as Drawing Surface and Imaginary Ship Sail

The same client who had me design and construct the cabinetry storage solution also had me build a sandbox cover for her child, Cade, so I took the opportunity to create a pulley to raise/lower the heavy lid which also doubles as a chalk board surface.  Children at play are protected from the possibility of a falling lid by means of a doubly redundant locking stainless steel carabiner retention system, and a slightly obtuse angle at which the raised lid rests in relation to the ground.
The lid is self-reinforced by development of an arched surface which sustains compressive force under load. The design also resembles a ship under sail, promoting imaginative play.
